Vilma Gayoso-Haro is a technical expert with over 18 years of experience in socio-economic and environmental assessments in Canada and internationally. She is responsible for managing and developing socio-economic impact assessments and consultation strategies for major projects, including preparation of economic, social, land use, and Indigenous interest components of baseline studies, Environmental Impact Assessments and Environmental Management and Monitoring Plans. Vilma has thorough knowledge of the Canadian environmental impact assessment processes (federal, provincial and territorial) and associated regulations and has worked according to best international practices including the World Bank Equator Principles, the IFC Performance Standards, and the UNDP guidelines.

Vilma has participated in many major environmental review processes from beginning to end, including preparing Initial Project descriptions, Application Information Requirements, project scoping and selection of valued components, stakeholder and First Nations engagement, conducting effects assessments, and supporting permitting applications to critically evaluating impact assessments and conducting due diligences and risk assessments. Vilma has participated in various public consultation processes in support of project development applications, and has worked in the capacity of technical advisor, presenter, and facilitator. She is proficient in modeling building and the interpretation of technical information, as well as the use of quantitative and qualitative methods to support social and economic assessments and valuations.

Vilma is familiar with complex issues and concerns associated with extractive projects. She has led engagement and economic, social and land use components for numerous Environmental Assessments and environmental overviews including for Josemaria Project, Yellowhead Project, Century Gold Project, Ajax Mine Project, Peace Region Electricity Supply Project, Blackwater Gold, WCC LNG, Casino Mine, Terrace to Kitimat Transmission Project, Raven Underground Coal, Kitsault Molybdenum Mine, KSM copper/gold, Murray River coal, Hope Bay Belt, Pueblo Viejo mine and others.
