Backed by 21 years of experience, Ben Wheeler provides strategic and practical consulting services in environmental assessment (EA) and regulatory affairs. Ben has experience in both policy and strategy formulation, and with implementing assessment projects nationally.
Ben has worked with a wide range of clients from the energy, mining, transportation, port, and government sectors, and brings added experience working with First Nations and environmental non-governmental organizations. He specializes in managing large EA projects, including screening, comprehensive study, and review panel processes, and is experienced developing position papers, frameworks, issues analyses, and briefing notes. Ben also oversees program development, manages report structure and content development, oversees regulatory engagement, and designs regulatory strategy.
From serving as the Program Manager on the largest EA submitted under the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act to playing key roles on multiple panel and comprehensive study-level EAs, Ben brings direct and current experience working with regulatory agencies in four EA jurisdictions across Canada. A marine environment specialist, Ben sits on a National Recovery Team under the Species at Risk Act, and regularly presents at national and international conferences.
