Shawn Cornett, B.Sc., M.Sc., PhD

Shawn’s career began as an ice researcher supporting oil and gas exploration in the Beaufort Sea.  She then shifted her focus to continuous improvement, participating in several large-scale business reengineering projects. She has worked in organizations such as Canadian Marine Drilling, Amoco Canada and BP, assisting them in effectively and strategically managing their business. 

Most recently as VP HR, Talent Management at Nexen, Shawn was responsible for strategic development, developing leadership capacity, design of employee engagement initiatives and ensuring integration with existing programs, design and execution of communication and change management programs, and workforce planning.  Her responsibilities covered corporate offices, field operations and international divisions in the UK, Middle East and US.

Shawn is now providing her skills, experience, and knowledge to organizations of all sizes.  Working with Executives, Boards or HR leaders, she addresses key people issues to effectively support business success.

Throughout her career, Shawn has volunteered in not-for-profit organizations.  She is currently Chair of the Board for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Calgary, HR Committee Chair and Board member for the Centre for Affordable Water and Sanitation Technology, and an executive for the Women’s Leadership Initiative of the United Way.

Jim Stewart, B.Sc. (Civil Engineering)          

Jim has over 40 years of experience in the engineering and environmental consulting industry.  He joined UMA Engineering early in his career and worked in various management positions, ultimately becoming President and CEO.  During that time, UMA grew from a prairie basedconsulting practice of 250 people, to a national enterprise with approximately 1,000 staff members and offices from Victoria, BC to Montreal, PQ.

After UMA joined the global consulting network of AECOM, Jim became President of AECOM Canada Ltd., and an Executive Vice President in AECOM's North America region.

Jim now works independently, providing advisory services to the engineering and environmental consulting industry; he focuses on strategic planning, operational improvement, and growth.\

 

 

 

 

 

Debra Finlay, BA, LLB

A partner in the Business Law Group at McCarthy T├ętrault, Vancouver, Debra Finlay is a new addition to Hemmera’s Board of Directors. Debra has project development experience, working with domestic and international clients in the energy (conventional, upstream, and LNG), marine terminal, transmission, and forestry sectors.

Currently, Debra’s practice is primarily focused in the areas of private company mergers and acquisitions, as well as corporate and commercial law. Debra has significant experience negotiating and settling complex commercial transactions in various areas of business law including the following industries: energy, chemical, manufacturing, agrifood/agribusiness and technology. In particular, she has acted as lead counsel on several complex outsourcing transactions including business process and technology outsourcings, and the related competitive procurement process, for both public sector and private sector clients.

Debra is recognized in the Canadian Legal Expert Directory in the areas of corporate mid-market, computer and Information Technology (IT) law, as well as corporate commercial law, technology transactions, and private equity. She is also listed in the current edition of Best Lawyers in Canada in the areas of franchise law, IT law, privacy and data security, public procurement, and technology law.

Debra joined McCarthy T├ętrault in April, 2014. She received a BA from the University of Calgary in 1988 and her LLB from the University of Calgary in 1992. She was called to the Alberta bar in 1993 and the British Columbia bar in 1994.
